4/19 Roundup and News

Doosan 2, Nexen 0
W - Goh Chang-seong (1-0), L - Kim Seong-hyeon (0-2), S - Lim Tae-hoon (5)
Doosan HR - None Nexen HR - None

Nexen couldn't do anything against Doosan starter Dustin Nippert or the Doosan 'pen. The only criticism against Nippert is that he wasn't economical enough with his pitches to pitch later into the game. He gave up only five hits, but he walked four and only made it through five innings(104 pitches, 66 strikes). He did strike out seven, but it felt like he was wasting pitches trying to set guys up for the K.

Doosan broke a scoreless tie in the sixth when Nexen starter Kim Seong-hyeon put back-to-back pitches in the dirt with Doosan left fielder Kim Hyeon-su on first base. Kim advanced to second on the first wild one and scored from second on the second.

The Bears added an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI single from center fielder Lee Jong-wook and cruised to an easy W.

SK 6, LG 3
W - Jeong Woo-ram (3-0), L - Radhames Liz (1-2), S - Jeong Dae-hyeon (3)
SK HR - None LG - Cho In-seong (3)

This game was tied at three heading into the bottom of the seventh inning when SK second baseman hit an off-the-wall double to drive in a run and give SK a 4-3 lead. Jeong finished 3-4 with a pair of RBIs.

SK loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth. SK first baseman Park Jeong-kwon singled to right to plate a run and make the score 5-3. Then, things got silly. LG shortstop Oh Ji-hwan and left fielder Jeong Eui-yoon watched a blooper fall in between them to allow SK to get another insurance run.

SK closer Jeon Dae-hyeon walked two and struck out two during a scorless ninth.

LG catcher Cho In-seong lead the LG offense by going 2-3 with a walk, a homer, three RBIs and a run scored.

Lotte 2, Hanhwa 2
Lotte HR - None Hanhwa HR - Jeong Won-seok (2)

Lotte was behind 2-1 in the top of the eighth inning. Lotte put runners on first and second with only one out. Left fielder Hong Seong-heun put a single back up the middle to score the runner from second and tie te game at two.

Tied is where the game remained for the next four innings. Lotte was able get a bunch of baserunners, but they yanked most of their run producers for pinch runners. Scoring runs was difficult.

I understand that Lee Dae-ho and Hong Seong-heun aren't the greatest of baserunners, but this is getting ridiculous. This is not little league. Everyone does not need to play. This is professional baseball and the professionals need to play. Kim Ju-chan should not be giving at bats to warm bodies like Hwang Seong-yong. I'm sure that Hwang's mom is thrilled that she got to see her son play, but no one wants to see Kim Ju-chan sitting unless he gets hit by a bus.

Brian Corey's solid effort was wasted. Corey went six innings(98 pitches, 65 strikes) and gave up two runs. Corey allowed three hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Hanhwa starter Ahn Seung-min also threw the ball really well. Ahn threw six innings(89 pitches, 57 strikes) of one-run ball. Ahn gave up only four hits and one walk while striking out eight.

Samsung 8, KIA 0
W - Ahn Ji-man (2-1), L - Yang Hyeon-jong (0-2)
Samsung HR - Choi Hyeong-woo (2) KIA HR - None

Samsung pounded the Tigers behind a solid start from Ahn Ji-man and a solid offensive effort up and down the lineup.

Lions starter Ahn Ji-man threw six scoreless innings(88 pitches, 53 strikes). Ahn gave up two hits and two walks while striking out three.

Samsung RBI machine/left fielder Choi Hyeong-woo blasted a three-run bomb. Right fielder Park Han-yi went 1-2 with a walk, a double, a HBP and three runs scored.

KIA starter Yang Hyeon-jong was chased from the game after only recording four outs. Yang gave up four hits and three walks while giving up five runs. Yuck.
